BILOXI, Miss. – April 3, 2017 – MGM Resorts International’s award-winning Fallen Oak played host to the eighth annual PGA TOUR Champions Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic March 31 – April 2. Miguel Angel Jimenez walked away with his second consecutive win, taking home the trophy and $240,000 in cash.
Holding a two-stroke lead going to the 54th hole, Jimenez made a double bogey to fall back into a playoff with Gene Sauers, the 36-hole-leader. Sauers par on the 18th forced sudden death, for the first time in Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic history. A 10-foot birdie won Jimenez the title for the second year in a row. This win marks the fourth year in succession he has won at least one title on PGA TOUR Champions Tour. This makes him the first person to successfully defend a title on Tour since Bernhard Langer won the 2016 Constellation Senior Players Championship, an event he has won three years in a row. Jimenez said, “I’m happy to defend the title the way I defended it.” This makes $480,000 the Spainard has won from the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
