Beau Rivage Welcomes Cruisers

19th ANNUAL CRUISIN' THE COAST OCT. 4-11, 2015

Billed as America’s largest block party, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is gearing up for the 19th annual Cruisin’ the Coast event, Oct. 4-11. Last year’s Cruisin’ the Coast brought a record 7,293 vehicles. Organizers are planning for more than 7,500 registered cars in 2015.

What began 19 years ago as a festival to celebrate antique, hot rod and classic cars and nostalgic music, with just 374 registered cars, has grown into one of the South’s largest special events. Car enthusiasts from 41 states plus Canada and Sweden drive to the Mississippi Gulf Coast once a year to showcase their rides and to cruise the beautiful 30-mile stretch of beachside highway with designated stops in Bay St. Louis, Biloxi, D’Iberville, Gulfport, Pass Christian and Ocean Springs.

Each venue is set up as a mini festival with a stage for live bands, reserved parking for registered cruisers, spectator parking, and vendors for food and event merchandise. The week-long event includes cruise-ins, a car auction, swap meet, car corral, and a parade. Spectators are welcome and will find that cruisers love to talk “old cars.”

MGM Resorts International’s Beau Rivage Resort & Casino is a major sponsor with a week-long Cruisin’ the Coast schedule of its own. Beau Rivage will kick off 2015 Cruisin’ the Coast with an autograph signing on Sunday, Oct. 4 by Cristy Lee of ALL GIRLS GARAGE on Discovery Channel’s Velocity Network. For the first time ever, MGM Park will host Salute To Our Veterans, a car and entertainment event geared to our nation’s military from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Beau Rivage will host the official “Cruisin’” event on Wednesday, Oct. 7 with its annual Sock Hop in Coast. Doors open at 5 p.m., with nostalgic 50s music, specially priced food and cocktails and an autograph signing by Courtney Hansen, host of PowerNation on SpikeTV, NBC Sports and CBS Sports. Sonny Turner, the former lead singer of The Platters, will perform at 8 p.m. Tickets will be $5 each or free with an M life card.
Beau Rivage will have designated cruiser parking on the second floor of the parking garage and will offer a special Cruisin’ the Coast drink menu in EIGHT75 and Coast all week. BR Emporium, located in the resort’s shopping promenade, will have a selection of themed merchandise for the event.

You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt. Happily for us all, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut more than 50 years ago. Captained by Mike Love, The Beach Boys will play two unforgettable shows in the Beau Rivage Theatre during this year’s Cruisin’ the Coast.
