BILOXI, Miss. (September 30, 2014) –What began in 1996 as a festival to celebrate antique, hot rod and classic cars and nostalgic music - with just 374 registered cars - has grown into one of the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s most spectacular events. This year organizers anticipate more than 8,000 registered cars and Beau Rivage has developed a weeklong schedule of activities for those who want to participate in the event.
Beau Rivage has served as a major sponsor and supporter of Cruisin’ the Coast since opening in 1999. Beau Rivage offers designated cruiser parking on the second floor of the parking garage. The resort offers a special Cruisin’ the Coast drink menu all week, and the Beau Rivage shopping promenade has a selection of themed merchandise just for the occasion.
Beau Rivage serves as host the official “Cruisin’ the Coast’” event on Wednesday, Oct. 8 with a Sock Hop in Coast. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with nostalgic 50s music, specially priced food and cocktails, and a free drawing for four pairs of Beach Boys tickets and other Beau Rivage prizes. Sonny Turner, the former lead singer of The Original Platters, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 each or free with an M life card. There is only one surviving member of The Platters still alive today that can be heard on the hundreds of recordings and hit records that made The Platters one of the most successful vocal groups of all time, and that is Sonny Turner. In late 1959, Sonny Turner replaced Tony Williams as the lead singer and brought The Platters back to the pop charts in the 60s with such hits as “I Love You 1000 Times,” “With This Ring” and “Washed Ashore,” as well as re-recording major Platters hits like “Only You,” “The Great Pretender” and “The Magic Touch.
Beau Rivage kicks off the fun-filled week with a complimentary Meet and Greet with car makeover television star Courtney Hansen, host of PowerNation on SpikeTV, NBC Sports and CBS Sports. The former host of “Powerblock” and “Overhaulin'” will be in Beau Rivage’s hotel atrium Sunday, Oct. 5 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Cruisers are invited to come, meet and take photos with one of the most popular female automotive overhaul specialists.
Shift your competitive spirit into overdrive and cruise into Beau Rivage for the chance to win your share of $50,000 in CASH and TablePlay. The Back to the Classics $50,000 Blackjack tournament takes place Oct. 5- 7. A $100 entry fee includes registration and an entry into a drawing to win one of five $500 TablePlay prizes on Oct. 5 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Two revved up days of accelerated tournament competition on Oct. 6 & Oct. 7. For those interested in an exciting night of boxing action that will be televised on ESPN, head to the Beau Rivage Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 8 for the IBF Middleweight Championship Fight. IBF middleweight champion “King” Sam Soliman (44-11, 18KO’s) will defend his crown against former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor (32-4-1, 20KO’s) in the main event. Tickets start at $29.95, plus tax and service charges, and can be purchased at the Beau Rivage Theatre box office, or through any Ticketmaster outlet or online at Ticketmaster.com. Beau Rivage heads into the final weekend of Cruisin’ the Coast with two performances by the iconic Beach Boys on Oct. 10 & Oct. 11. You can capsulate most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. To be sure, this band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that it changed the musical landscape so profoundly that every pop act since has been in its debt. Happily for us all, The Beach Boys continue to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut over 50 years ago. Few, if any, acts can match The Beach Boys’ concert presence, spirit and performance. Each show begins at 8:00 p.m. in the Beau Rivage Theatre. Tickets are $39.95, $49.95, & $59.95 + tax & service charge and can be purchased by calling the Beau Rivage Theatre Box Office at 888-566-7469 or online at beaurivage.com.
In addition to headline entertainment, Beau Rivage’s Coast, EIGHT75 and Breeze Bar will be offering live entertainment, in addition to a special $5.50 Cruisin’ the Coast drink menu featuring specialty cocktails sure to bring back memories and uplift spirits. Offerings include The Galaxie – Malibu Rum, Blue Curacao, Coco Lopez, Pineapple Juice; Rockett 88 – Bombay Dry Gin, Crème de Noyaux, Pink Grapefruit Juice; Beach Blvd. Riviera – Stoli Peach Vodka, Pineapple Juice and Orange Juice; The Sunset Strip – Jose Cuervo, Raspberry Luscious Schnapps, Orange Juice and Pink Thunderbird – Stoli Strasberi, Monin Guava Syrup, Sweet n Sour.
